Well, truth be told I'll be watching and cheering on my VOLS today from DC. BUT, you better believe my heart is in Neyland Stadium with 102,000 of my closest friends and family.
I'm a HUGE Tennessee Volunteers fan. Grew up in Knoxville, went to The University of Tennessee, and I'm pretty sure my blood bleeds orange (with a hint of black and gold for my Steelers, ha!).
My family has had season tickets my entire life. Even during the six year period where we went through four coaches and half a dozen years of losing seasons. It was pure torture watching our boys work hard, yet continue to lose week after week. But, like any loyal Vols fan, you stick with them.
Finally... finally... Tennessee is getting back to the ole team that we know. Butch Jones (our head coach) has really turned around this team, our football program, and the entire state for that matter. I haven't seen this much hype and excitement surround the Vols since 1998 when we were National Champions. It's truly exciting, and I get chills every time I watch a new hype video on YouTube or see someone post about how many days are left till the first game.
Well my friends, that countdown is OVER. Today's the day! The Tennessee Volunteers take on Appalachian State, in Knoxville!
But like any good Southern football loving woman, it's not just about the game. It's also about the tailgating AND the style. While I was in college football games were like attending Church. You showed up in your Sunday best. Over the years though, gameday attire has taken a more casual turn. With most girls dawning football jerseys, bluejean shorts and cowboy boots. A winning, yet casual combo.
While I enjoy a good dress down day, I still like to put together a gameday look, sans jersey. Let's leave those to the men y'all.
But if you're like me, finding the RIGHT COLOR ORANGE can be one of the hardest tasks in the world. Let's get this straight. Coral, is NOT orange. So stop it ladies! It's not Tennessee orange, nor is burnt orange. So when you're left with this light shade that is Tennessee orange, finding clothing in that particular color is like finding a needle in a haystack. Nearly impossible.
Thankfully there's a new college gameday brand that's helping combat this problem.
In walks Stewart Simmons.
How adorable is this seersucker scalloped skirt? It's 100% gameday and tailgate worthy (and 20% off for a limited time only with code PRIMPFAN).
This is my first of TWO looks I'll be sharing with Stewart Simmons, with the second one coming next Friday as I kickoff a fun Football Friday series with a few of my blogger gal pals. So stay tuned for that.
For today though, I paired this skirt with a simple white button down (old, another great option). I'll probably find a thinner white tank to pair with this for the Tennessee vs. Florida game. Since it'll only be mid-September and still humid.
Y'all should definitely checkout the Stewart Simmons brand. They offer more schools than just Tennessee, and they'll be rolling out a few new styles very soon. I will say that the pieces are very affordable, and good quality. The skirt is my favorite Tennessee piece, and something I can always wear to work on Big Orange Fridays!! How awesome is that?!
One note about sizing though. I'm normally a tried and true size 8 or medium. But their pieces do run a bit small. I'm actually wearing an XL skirt, but I've been told they're revamping their sizing and fit. So when purchasing the skirt, my advice is to size up. If you normally wear a medium, get the large. Same when it comes to their dresses.
I'll be back next Friday with my second gameday look, but for now....
GO VOLS!! Beat App State!!
