Horsin' Around

Growing up in the South one of my favorite traditions was watching the Kentucky Derby with family and friends. Although the race is less than 2 minutes, it's an event that Southerners live for. Especially those from Kentucky. But it isn't just the derby! There are numerous races across the east coast. Everything from Steeplechase to the Virginia Gold Cup. Since moving to DC I've attended Gold Cup every May. This year is no different. I'll be heading down to stay with my friend Lauren and joining some of her friends this year! I'm excited to switch things up a bit. I look forward to mint juleps, some fun in the sun, and hoping to catch a race or two.

All this fun wouldn't happen though without a fabulous outfit. Am I right?! Between the spring dresses, hats and fascinators, ladies go all out for the horses. So I put together a little "shop post" for you all, featuring some gorgeous dress + hat options. I am planning to wear this Cynthia Rowley color-block lace dress from Rent the Runway!! So excited! Now I just need the perfect hat or fascinator!

If you're looking for even more inspiration, checkout my friend Josh's (The Kentucky Gent) post on the best mint julep recipe, Waiting on Martha's Mint Julep Trio and some more style inspiration from my friend Anna.

For even more shopping inspiration checkout the dress section at Nordstrom, some fabulous options from Ann Taylor and if you don't feel like purchasing something, rent instead! Rent the Runway has some excellent options for your derby party or any horse race you attend this spring!

Happy racin' y'all!!

That sounds like so much fun! I always used to go to Carolina Cup when I was in college. And I went to Australia after I finished my junior year to visit a friend studying abroad and we went to a race there too!

While this place gets a little crowded and you might have to push through occasionally, it's hard not to mention that a definite plus in these lofty spaces is that you'll rarely have to wait on line in their large bathrooms.
