February Favorites + Looking Ahead

Happy Monday y'all! Did you have a great weekend?!

My Saturday and Sunday were spent doing some major cleaning around the apartment, adding more items to my Poshmark Shop, hanging with some great friends and enjoying the gorgeous spring like weather we had. Yesterday was just beautiful. Mid-60s and not a cloud in the sky!! I took some new outfit photos with Nicole yesterday, and watched the Oscars with friends last night. Such a fun weekend!!

Since the temps were warmer, that called for breaking out the spring pieces from my closet. Like this gorgeous mint GiGi crossbody, my favorite new necklace from Julie Vos and enjoying my last day with these Karen Walker sunnie stunners. Sadly my rental period with Shop Ditto ended, but these beauties are at the top of my list to purchase next.

Any who, since it's the last day of February, that means it's time to recap the past month and talk about what's ahead for March. So let's recap the past 28 days shall we?!

Personal: February was an extremely busy month for me work wise. Every day seemed busier than the last. March is looking like it'll be just as busy, but it is an election year so I suppose they're trying to fit everything in before the primaries and campaigning really heat up.

Outside of work I have done a few happy hours and brunches with friends, but to be honest this month has been slow for receptions and events. Some of it has to do with the weather, but it's mainly been because I'm too exhausted after work to do anything, ha! Thankfully spring is just around the corner, and DC is the perfect city for outdoor activities, so it'll be really nice to have the warmer weather back and take advantage of getting out of the apartment!

Some of y'all have asked for more photos of my new apartment! I added a brand new one to Instagram this weekend! I just love the look and feel of a sparkling clean apartment. Don't you?!

As much as I'd love to share even more, I have to be honest that I haven't done much to the place since moving in. I've got all of the large furniture pieces, but am lacking majorly in accessories. Once I can replenish my bank account from moving and fashion week, I'll definitely be making several trips to Homegoods. Hope to have another home update post soon!

Blog: February was a BIG month for myself and my blog. I started incorporating more outfit posts, but the biggest thing to happen obviously was my first trip to New York Fashion Week. The few days prior to our trip were spent getting ready, and the weeks post NYC have been filled with playing catch up and sleeping. Y'all, I'm still exhausted from the trip!

I met so many wonderful people in NYC and have several exciting collaborations in the works. I can't wait to share those partnerships with y'all soon!

Favorite February Posts:

Fringe Pullover // by far my favorite outfit post of the month! Absolutely loved how the entire look came together. I've worn this sweater at least 5 or 6 times this month! So easy to throw on for a casual weekend brunch or dinner. P.S. It's on sale!!!
Olive and Blush // the perfect casual outfit, featuring my favorite color combo for spring!
Fashion Week Recaps // Day One, Day Two, Days Three and Four
Spring Favorites // a 50+ item shopping post, featuring many of my favorite pieces for spring!
Friday Link Love, Vol. 16 // there were a ton of useful links in this post for those of you thinking of starting a blog or are new to blogging!
While there weren't as many posts this month, I can honestly say I was extremely happy with each and every post I did. I had several outfits that I just loved, and really enjoyed bringing the daily recaps from my Fashion Week trip. I feel like February can be a pretty bland month when it comes to outfit inspiration. You're in that in between season stage. So I'm really excited and eager to put together a lot more spring style posts next month!

Now let's look ahead to what's coming up for the month of March!

Personal: March is going to be a much busier month, social wise. Starting with this coming weekend! I have a few happy hours on Friday and a birthday extravaganza for my friend Alicia! Saturday I'm joining a large group of friends for the DC Brunch Club Event (think of it as Spring Break for post grads, eeekkk). I'm excited to finally have a few fun events lined up and to spend the weekend with great friends!

The next month is also the final big push for Taste of the South! Many of y'all know, but for those who don't, I help plan one of the largest charity galas in DC. You can checkout some of my recap posts from past years (here and here). I'm really excited about this year's gala because my home state of Tennessee will be featured, and our charity will receive the majority of the proceeds raised! It's an exciting honor for my state and a charity that's so close to my heart!

Blog: I've got a great lineup of posts coming up for the month of March. Including collaborations with brands like Vaseline, Lydell NYC, St. Ives, Julie Vos and more!

I'm going to work in some more "learn" posts for bloggers, and explain how you can shop my Instagram feed and closet! There will of course be new outfit posts and even more style inspiration for spring.

I also mentioned last month that my site will be getting a little facelift. I'm SO excited because this is finally happening this month!! I'll be making the site design a little more professional and clean looking, and taking into account many of your suggestions from January's reader survey. I hope to have all the updates complete in just a few weeks, but will of course notify y'all when I have an exact reveal date. So stay tuned, and don't hesitate to let me know if you have anymore suggestions. Please leave in the comments below!

Have a great Monday!!

Friday Link Love, Vol. 17

Wow, what a week this has been! I can honestly share with y'all it has just been a hard week. It wasn't just one particular thing, but many small challenges that meshed into just one long and crappy week. Maybe the dreary, rainy and cold weather we had every day sparked the bad energy, not sure. But we all have these weeks, right?!

When I have a hard day, or week in this case, I try to surround myself with pretty things. Like a gorgeous bouquet of flowers! It's so weird, but a twelve dollar vase full of blooms can really lift a gals spirit. Men, take note! The flowers have been a great reminder to keep my head up. It sounds cheesy, but it really works. Do y'all have an item that cheers you up during a hard day/week? Share with me in the comments below!

Before I leave y'all for the weekend, I put together an all new Friday Link Love. There's some really great deals and sneak peeks in the links. Check it out and have a marvelous weekend friends!! Xo

Spring Favorites

Recently we've seen spring like temps begin to inch their way into the forecast. I've also noticed the sun starting to set later and later. Trees are starting to show buds, and flowers starting to peek out from under the winter crust. All of these signs point that spring is near!

Since we still have a few more weeks till it's officially spring and the warmer temps are here to stay, I thought it was the perfect time for everyone to begin stocking up their closets for the new season. Stores are starting to release their new collections, and I'm noticing quite a few winter trends begin their spring transition!

So I wanted to put together one big post featuring some items I'm truly loving! I've featured all price ranges, a wide variety of brands and styles. You can shop by scrolling through any of the sections below or by clicking on any of the photos in this post. You'll be automatically directed straight to the piece to shop!

Tell me, what are some pieces you're loving for the new season?

Dresses // I pulled several dresses that are perfect for any spring occasion! Like this one for a garden party, this gorgeous white scalloped dress for Easter, and my new fave lace dress that's at the top of my must have list!!

Tops // Lace is ALL the rage this spring!! One of my favorite trends, I love searching for new lace tops. Whether to wear to work with a pencil skirt, a pastel color pant for a weekend brunch, or a fun night on the town. There are many ways you can incorporate a lace top into your spring wardrobe!

Bottoms and Skirts // Once again the lace trend is popping up in other spring pieces as well! Like this gorgeous midi skirt and pencil skirt. You also need a great pair of white jeans for your spring wardrobe as well! The days of waiting till after Easter to wear white are over!

Accessories and Shoes // Some of the big trends making a come back this spring are tassels, block heels and bolder pastel colors! It's not just about pale pink or blue. Loving this tassel clutch and mint green cross body bag. You can definitely take these two accessories into the summer months!

I also love the block heel, so these strappy sandals are perfect for the spring! Especially if you're heading somewhere warm for spring break!

For those of you staying in cooler weather locations, a great lace up ballet flat is perfect with your white jeans or skinny denim.

Don't forget to finish off your spring outfit with a colorful scarf, mint blue trent for those cool mornings and a pop of color on your lip!

In case you missed any above pieces, you can shop by clicking on any of the images below! Happy shopping!

Olive and Blush

Field Jacket (old, similar from J.Crew) // H&M Blush Sweater (similar) // Levi's Skinny Jeans

One of my favorite color combos for spring is olive and blush pink. This has also been a favorite color combo of mine in the fall. I feel like these two colors can work year round, simply by choosing the right pieces to pair together.

This past weekend DC experienced warmer temps, finally!! While the mornings were cool, the afternoons warmed up into the mid-60s. On Saturday I knew I was meeting my friend Katie for an early brunch, but didn't know what the rest of the day would bring. So I chose a casual outfit that was comfortable for sitting at brunch for a few hours, but had some style in case we got into anything afterwards. Sadly my new favorite necklace broke only a few minutes after I left my apartment. So I felt a little bland without my fun statement necklace. But I did include a photo below with the necklace so you can see what it looked like paired with the outfit. Thankfully I was able to fix the necklace, but not till I got home and had already shot the outfit. This is a not so glamorous story of behind the scenes of a fashion blogger, ha!

I paired this blush H&M sweater with an old LOFT field jacket (linked to an almost identical version from J.Crew above). I thought the color combo worked quite nicely. I then added a pop with my Lydell necklace and Daniel Wellington Watch (use code KRISTYNALYSSE at checkout to get 15% off your DW order). It was the perfect casual outfit for a spring like afternoon.

New York Fashion Week Day Three & Four

Happy Monday! Everyone have a great weekend?

Mine was mostly spent outdoors enjoying the gorgeous spring-like weather DC had. I also spent a lot of my weekend getting caught up on stuff around the apartment. Including cleaning out my closet. I had so many great pieces that I didn't want to just get rid of, so I finally created a Poshmark account. This way y'all can shop my closet!!

Here's the link straight to my account. Right now I'm selling mostly fall + winter pieces, some great name brand handbags and totes, and several items perfect for spring mixed in. Everything's negotiable, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Any who, today's post is all about my final New York Fashion Week recap!! I decided to combine Day Three and Four, mostly because these days weren't as busy as the others. So today's post is all about the final two days of our trip. Don't forget to email me any questions you have about Fashion Week, attending yourself or questions about my trip in general. Feel free to leave in the comments below too. I'll be answering all of these questions in a full Fashion Week 101 post on March 1st.

Saturday, February 13th

9:30 a.m. // Wake up call, get ready. Laura and I head to the Taoray Wang show (watch full show here).

11:35 a.m. // Show starts 35 minutes late, but we're front row once again! So, so excited!!

I absolutely loved this show. It was probably one of my favorites to be honest. I just loved the ready-to-wear pieces. A lot of the items in the collection are pieces that I would actually wear.

Like this gorgeous winter white coat! It's so Olivia Pope!!!

And this gorgeous lace top and trench coat combo!

11:48 a.m. // Laura and I head over to the ShopStyle Social House to meet up with Lauren and Jenn. The ShopStyle House was the perfect place for a mid-day break. It was a three story loft that had beverages for us to refuel, a makeup counter to get our hair and makeup touched up, and the chance to connect with brands like GiGi New York, Sole Society, World Market, Daniel Wellington and more. We also got to take home a few goodies from each of the brands! Thank you ShopStyle!!!

1:30 p.m. // We head to ABC Kitchen for a delicious brunch! We met back up with Dana, and our friend Amanda from M Booth PR joined us as well. Thanks Amanda for treating us all to a fabulous lunch in the city!! If you are in the Flatiron area, I highly recommend ABC Kitchen for lunch or dinner. Next time I'm in the city I definitely want to try it out for dinner, as I hear it's even better than their brunch!

3:45 p.m. // We hailed a cab and headed over to SoHo to meet with Roxy from Society Social!! I was so so excited about this meeting. For those of you who don't know, Society Social is where I got my bar cart from.

4:00 p.m. // Meeting with Society Social! We walked in and were instantly greeted by Inslee (y'all may recognize her paintings and watercolor prints) and Roxy. We almost died!! Such a treat to meet two fabulous entrepreneurs.

Inslee and Roxy share a shop down in SoHo, 73 Spring Street. It is the absolute cutest loft. I've seen sneak peeks of their space on Instagram, but it was so cool to see it in person finally. Every spot in that space was utilized and featured products from Society Social and Inslee.

Roxy was the sweetest person. We never expected for her to meet with us more than 20 minutes or so, but much to our surprise we were there over an HOUR!!! She was so kind to host us, and share all about how she created her business. She even asked our opinion about her ideas for designing her new home. It was so fun being able to give our thoughts about her vision!

I'll share a little more about Society Social and Roxy in a separate post soon. But for now, I'll be dreaming of how I can incorporate even more Society Social product in my new apartment!!

5:10 p.m. // We cabbed back to the hotel to change for our last runway show and dinner. We changed into our Rent the Runway beauties and walked quickly back to Moynihan Station for the Monique Lhuillier show. It was SO cold and we all were in the thinest dresses. Yikes!!

7:00 p.m. // The Monique Lhuillier show (watch entire show here). Oh my gosh y'all. Story time. So Jenn and I got last minute invites to this show. All we had were confirmation numbers and no idea if we were sitting or standing. We asked so many people working the show, but no one could seem to be able to help us. So we decided to just walk right into the venue. We stood at the front waiting to be the first to fill in open seats. All the sudden one of the workers ushered us into the THIRD row!! We ended up sitting right behind Hilary Duff and Naya Rivera (from the show Glee)!!! Jenn and I almost died. We couldn't believe where we were sitting at one of the biggest runway shows at Fashion Week.

The show started and it was everything I dreamed of and more. Some of my favorites were these green floral pants and pink coat. I also loved the pop of sparkle in the collar.

This skirt and silk blouse would be gorgeous for an office appropriate outfit of the day.

and these two gorgeous gowns that ended the show!

Attending the Monique Lhuillier show was the absolute best way to end our weekend at Fashion Week. Towards the end of the show Jenn and I looked at each other and just started tearing up! We just couldn't believe where we were, how we got there and what we were experiencing. It was truly a dream come true! The show and the entire weekend!

8:00 p.m. // We got an Uber and headed to Midtown to meet up with Jessica from My Style Vita. Y'all may know Jessica as one of the co-founders of The Blog Societies with Cathy of Poor Little It Girl. I've met Jess a few times, but always at events. So it was really nice to have the time to get to know her more, outside of events and the Blog Societies Conference!!

Y'all, The Smith was definitely my second favorite place we ate all weekend. There wasn't one thing I didn't like, and we didn't even get to try dessert because we were too full! We had mussels, mac n' cheese, tuna tartar, gnocchi and their brussels sprouts. Okay, so most of that was what I ate (I was so hungry!!). I will most certainly try to eat there every visit to NYC!!

10:45 p.m. // Even though we left dinner with full bellies and exhaustion starting to set in, we decided that we couldn't leave NYC without going out one night. So we cabbed over to Hotel Americano for a rooftop blogger party. We didn't stay long, but were able to enjoy the gorgeous views of the Empire State Building and NYC Skyline. Sadly it was too dark to get a good picture, but trust me when I say it's a must visit if you're in town!

11:50 p.m. // Bedtime, finally!!! And goodnight New York Fashion Week!!

Sunday, February 14th, Valentine's Day

9:00 a.m. // Our last day! We slept in a little bit while Laura headed to the Tome show!

9:45 a.m. // We still had to shoot our Rent the Runway looks. It also happened to be the coldest day of the trip. Felt like ten below with the wind chill. SO not ideal for shooting outfits outside. But we braved the cold and got the photos. Read more about this story, here.

11:30 a.m. // We finished packing, changed for the day and checked our bags with the concierge.

12:30 p.m. // Lunch at Sarabeth's!

**Interested in getting a Daniel Wellington watch for yourself? I've got a 15% off discount code for your next order. Use KRISTYNALYSSE at checkout. I've linked to the exact one featured in the photo above. I seriously haven't taken this watch off since I've gotten home. It's so lightweight, yet stylish. It's my new go-to for the workday and casual weekend outfits!!

2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. // Shopping in SoHo! We stopped in the Birchbox flagship store, and walked around a few other shops before cabbing back to the hotel.

5:10 p.m. // Finally got an Uber and headed to Penn Station for our train home.

6:00 p.m. // The story you all have been waiting for (if you saw my Twitter rant last Sunday night).

I've ridden Amtrak many times. Even during rush hour or the end of the weekend. Never in my life have I been shoved into a car and not been able to move. Our train arrived 10 minutes late, and instead of giving us the full 10-15 minutes to board and find a seat, the train took off on time. We literally were given 5 minutes to fill the train with hundreds of people and our luggage. **Side note, this is how much luggage just the four of us had…

Instead of spacing us out onto multiple cars, they shoved us all into two. There was a HUGE stand still and hold up in the middle of the car. Too many people going too many directions. You couldn't move or pass anyone. All the seats were full, there was no where to put our luggage and we were all tired and hungry.

After about 30 minutes of standing with our luggage in the middle of the car, we finally were able to make a move to the next car. At this point we found an area to store our luggage, but still no seats. That's when I noticed quite a few people holding seats just because they didn't want someone to sit next to them. After calling some people out, giving a little attitude towards some folks, Jenn and I finally got seats. Laura and Lauren had to actually sit on the ground for HALF of the train ride till a couple got off at Philly and gave them their seats. Seriously?!

I mean I've never been more frustrated or upset with a company before. Nobody on Amtrak seemed to care or even help us. It was a mess and a nightmare. I'm not one to complain on here about a company, but I wouldn't be telling the whole truth if I didn't. I rarely have bad experiences with services, but when I do, you best believe I will be sharing them with y'all. Any who, for those of you who asked after seeing my tweets, I did call and Amtrak gave me a $25 credit towards a future ride. But the headache and hassle was DEFINITELY not worth that small token of "we're sorry."

I hated that we had to end our trip on such a sour note. BUT after we finally got seated, ate our dinner and calmed down, we realized we couldn't let a snafu ruin our incredible weekend. It truly was a magical four days and I'm already counting down the days till September Fashion Week!! For now, I just need to continue catching up on sleep and relaxing with my Birchbox goodies!!

Tomorrow I'll be back with a brand new outfit post, and later in the week I'll be sharing my current favorite pieces for spring!! For those of you over the NYFW posts, I promise that's it for now. I'll have my Fashion Week 101 post on March 1st, but we can finally get back to regular order of business on here. Yay, ha!

New York Fashion Week Day Two

Happy Friday y'all!!

Just wanted to say thanks so much for your patience with all of these New York Fashion Week posts. I know that not everyone is interested in reading the same thing, but I definitely wanted to make sure I shared about my trip with those who are interested. With that said, I'll definitely be mixing in a few "non fashion week" related posts next week! A brand new outfit post, not from NYC, and a post featuring some of my favorite spring pieces I've got my eye on. So stay tuned for those.

Also, for those of you who have asked NYFW related questions or seek advice on how to attend yourself, I'll be answering all of your questions in one concise post on March 1st. So please email me here if you have any questions or inquiries about my first Fashion Week. Happy to answer them the best I can.

Now that we've gotten those two things out of the way, let's talk about Day 2 of my New York Fashion Week trip.

Friday, February 12th

8:00 a.m. // Wake up, shower and get ready for a long day. Thankfully this day was a tad warmer than Thursday, so I decided to go with a skirt and OTK boot combo, without tights. I also picked out an outfit that I could wear all day, as this was going to be the longest and most jam packed day of them all. So no time to head back to the hotel to change.

Shop My Look Here:
Kate Spade Saturday OTK Boots (old, similar here) // Karen Walker Sunnies (via Shop Ditto)

9:30 a.m. // Off to my first show of the day, Tadashi Shoji!

10:00 a.m. // Thankfully I had a seated ticket for this show, so I didn't have to wait or stand long. They let everyone with a seated ticket into the main room and I quickly found my seat. I ended up sitting right behind a girl I hadn't seen since high school. Emma was a grade below me, but we have a ton of mutual friends. Sadly we didn't realize we had been sitting next to each other till right before the show started. Even so, it was so great seeing a past Farragut High grad years later in NYC.

10:15 a.m. // The show started. You can view most of the Tadashi collection, here (photos also via).

Tadashi has been one of those brands that I've followed for years. I've watched the show online the past two years, so it was a dream come true to witness this year's runway show in person. Y'all know I love sparkle, so I was ecstatic to see so much sparkle and sequins in this collection. I just died over this gown with a sequin bodice:

And this gorgeous white number that had a bohemian flare!

10:35 a.m. // After I picked my jaw up off the floor (just still so in awe of the show), I headed uptown to the Kate Spade Presentation. This year's presentation was held at the Rainbow Room above Rockefeller Center. Y'all, I think I was just as enamored with the view as I was with the clothes. This location offered the most breathtaking views of the city and thankfully it was the most gorgeous day.

When I walked into the room though, I immediately noticed Lennon and Maisy from the show Nashville. Being a fellow Tennessee gal, I instantly knew who they were and that I had to meet them. I somehow garnered the strength to walk over and introduce myself. Y'all, they couldn't have been nicer!! Both girls were absolutely stunning in person, and so sweet. They even let me take a photo with them!!

After I got over my star struck moment, I decided I should probably checkout the presentation. If you know me, or have followed me for awhile, you know how much I love anything Kate Spade. I was most excited for this presentation all weekend and it definitely didn't disappoint!

I so wish I could wear this gorgeous floral dress and pale pink coat now...

And the piping on this black trench (photo via)?! O M G #need

I seriously didn't want to leave. I probably stayed for a good 45 minutes. I just couldn't believe I was standing in that room, with so many influential people in fashion. I just had to keep pinching myself!

I'll be sharing a few more of my favorite pieces from the Kate Spade collection next week on the blog.

12:30 p.m. // I cabbed over to the east side of town to meet up with the girls to visit the Julie Vos showroom. We got to view so many fabulous pieces of jewelry, and even took home their infamous coin necklace. I also picked up a gorgeous pair of hoop earrings. Y'all, I love these hoops. I am normally a stud kind of gal, but knew I had to have these. I felt so cool in them, ha!

1:30 p.m. // After our meeting we cabbed to the Upper East Side for tea and lunch at The Plaza. Every girls dream! It was also so nice to rest up for a bit and refuel. We enjoyed our own personal tea pot, glass of Vueve and tray of delicious treats. My favorite was the chicken salad sandwich of course!

3:45 p.m. // Once tea was over, we then Ubered (so many Ubers/taxis, ha!) back down to Clarkson Square for the O'2nd Presentation. Another new favorite of mine. Loved how they incorporated pieces that you really can wear in everyday life.

4:45 p.m. // Exhausted and tired at this point. We refueled with more coffee. Coffee was major key.

5:00 p.m. // Laura and Lauren had a show at Clarkson Square, so they just stayed and hung out before viewing Nicole Miller. Jenn also had a show, Sheri Hill, so I shared an Uber back to the hotel with her and rested a bit before she left. I then took a mini cat nap. It was so glorious.

6:45 p.m. // Everyone met back at the hotel to freshen up for dinner!

8:00 p.m. // We met up with some fellow DC friends, Meaghan of District Sparkle and Ally of AllyCog. We went to a new favorite restaurant of mine, Balthazar. Y'all. This was my favorite meal. I had the best steak I have ever had in my life. I cannot recommend this place enough if you visit. It was seriously the most delicious and I may or may not have licked my plate. Ooops. We also made a new friend, Emily from Accessories Gal blog. She was SO sweet and loved her personality. She also designs jewelry. How cool is that?!

10:35 p.m. // After a delicious dinner, some great company, and a few too many glasses of wine, it was bedtime. We headed back to the hotel to hangout and rest up for Day Three.

Hope y'all have enjoyed my daily recaps so far. Anything you want to see more of for Day Three and Four? Or less of? Let me know in the comments below.

Hope you all have a marvelous weekend! See you back here on Monday with my Day Three recap!
