What I'm Thankful For

So I wanted to take a little midweek timeout from the gift guides and present inspiration posts, to talk about what the season is truly about. What I'm thankful for. As an added bonus to my long list of appreciations, I've added a brand new outfit post to the mix! You can scroll all the way to the bottom of this post for outfit details and item links. Special thanks to the fabulous Nicole for these amazing photos!!

But now, onto what the true purpose of today's post is...

I'm not going to lie... 2015 has been the year of really high highs and really low lows. I've had some amazing moments, made some wonderful new friends and all the while had some really crappy hardships I had to face. I'm sure I'm not alone. Each year brings about its challenges for everyone, but it's how we use those hardships that make us a better person.

Some of these hardships I've shared with y'all on here, and others I've kept to myself. I mean, I gotta keep some things private y'all. But I've shared what I have with you all, in hopes that someone else out there who is going through the same thing, can know that they aren't alone! This year has brought its challenges, a true heartbreak, and the loss of a true American hero and my grandfather.

Through these negatives, I have gained many positives. From heartbreak, I learned what I truly want in a relationship and know exactly what I don't. My heart has grown stronger and able to handle whomever comes my way next. Through loss, I have learned to treasure the small moments with loved ones more. And I am thankful for the many years I was able to spend with my grandfather and the countless memories I made with him.

But this year hasn't been spent entirely with challenges, it has also brought some exceptionally wonderful moments as well.

I couldn't be happier or more thankful for the friendships that I have. I have so many wonderful groups of friends, both here in DC and back home in Tennessee. I was blessed with getting to see pretty much every one of my dear friends this year!

I also couldn't be more thankful that this little ole blog has brought some of the best friends in my life. I never in a million years would imagine that some of the friends I've made through blogging, are now some of my closest and best friends here in DC. I am very thankful for that and for their true friendships!

I am thankful for my wonderful family, who supports all my dreams and crazy ideas. I am thankful for my health and safety. I am thankful for a job that I love, and to have a supportive work family. I am thankful that this once hobby of blogging, has turned into so much more over the past year. And I am thankful for all the exciting plans that are yet to come.

As I look ahead to the new year, I already have so many exciting things planned. Everything from holiday parties and events, Christmas break spent at Disney and Universal Studios, to New Years Eve here in DC and my first trip to New York Fashion Week in February. It's going to be an exciting few months ahead!

None of this would be possible though without my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He has afforded me all of these opportunities and blessings of friendships, and I cannot thank Him enough this holiday season!!

And my last thank you? Is to all of YOU!!! Thank you for supporting me over the almost two years, thank you for reading my weekly posts, and THANK YOU for your countless words of encouragement, tweets, comments & more! While I can't always reply to everyone, just know that I truly thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I hope that each and every one of y'all have a blessed, and safe, Thanksgiving break and time spent with loved ones!

Christmas Home Decor + Giveaway

Happy Monday y'all! How was your weekend? The past few days were actually quite relaxing for me... and I didn't hate it! I was glad to have a low-key weekend, because once Thanksgiving passes, the month of December will be an absolute blur I'm sure. I was seriously looking at my calendar yesterday, and I was hard pressed to find a free day between November 30th and the start of the new year. Lots of fun ahead, but a very busy few weeks!!

But before we can celebrate Christmas, we have to discuss decor. I mean it's not the holidays unless my apartment looks like Santa's workshop… am I right?!

So I pulled together a big roundup of some of my favorite home decor pieces. Everything from basic decor and ornaments, to throws and pillows, to entertaining pieces and items for your bar cart. This post has it all.

There's also another HUGE giveaway at the bottom of this post. So make sure you keep scrolling all the way through!!

Pillows and Throws

P

When it comes to decorating my bedroom or living room, I can easily add a decorative pillow or throw to instantly change the feel of the room. I tend to not decorate my bedroom all that much, but I can add a little touch at least with an embroidered pillow or pompom blanket.

I love the options above, because there's a little something for everyone. Whether your style is traditional Christmas, looking for something for a bachelor pad or just to add a little sparkle to the room.

Home Decor

j

If you're looking for inexpensive decor, I usually turn to places like Etsy, Nordstrom or Target. The best part is, you can order all your decor online from these shops versus fighting the crowds at your local store.

I love little touches that can last all winter long, like decorative candles, doormats and glitter wreaths. You can also snag the Bay Leaf Wreath above from Williams-Sonomoa. This is a great option, because these wreaths are LIVE. They last for months, and you can use the bay leaves in your cooking!

Entertaining

To me, entertaining is the most fun aspect of the holidays. When it comes to adding decor to my bar cart, this is where I can get the most creative. I also love unique items like decorative cupcake liners, party or dessert picks and holiday coffee mugs.

Also, I'm loving the sweater koozie and FaLaLa latte coffee sleeve. I actually own this coffee sleeve and slip it over my Starbucks cups all December long!!

Now that you have some decor pieces in mind to shop for, you'll probably be needing to restock your wallet as well. Well, today y'all are in luck!! I've teamed up with a great group of bloggers to give away $500 in Paypal cash, just in time for your last minute holiday shopping. Enter using the widget below. Contest runs for three weeks and is open internationally. Best of luck and happy shopping y'all!

Friday Link Love, Vol. 13

Happy Friday friends!! I cannot believe yet another week is in the books. This week has been a little slower than normal for me, and I definitely didn't hate it. It has been a nice change of pace before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Last week, not as slow. I had an event every.single.night. Sheesh! The highlight of my week for sure was attending the Oscar de la Renta book signing by André Leon Talley himself!! I almost died when my bestie Jenn invited me to go with her. It was the best way to spend our Tuesday night!

André (former editor-at-large for Vogue magazine) wrote a memoir to his long time friend Oscar de la Renta! I cannot wait to read the book, but in the meantime I've enjoyed flipping through the pages and seeing the gorgeous images that grace throughout. If anything, the photos are just jaw dropping. They definitely do each gown or garment justice!! What I loved even more than snagging a copy of his book, was listening to André for more than two hours. He shared so many stories about his friendship with Oscar. Everyone was laughing the entire time. He was a hoot and I could have sat there all night listening to him speak!

It was such a fun evening, and one of the most exciting events I've been to during my time as a blogger. I've featured a few photos from the event in today's post!

Photos throughout were taken by Daniel Swartz via Revamp.

Now, to finish this week off strong, let's cover a little link love shall we?

Shop With Me
  • Want to pick up a copy of Andre's book, snag it here for less than $30 bucks!
  • An iPhone case that doubles as a pocket square?! How genius is this??
  • A clutch that charges your phone? Kate Spade, you've outdone yourself!
  • I just ordered these Christmas leggings for the holidays and they're less than $20!!
  • My new favorite booties
  • Speaking of, Express is totally killing it in the shoe game recently. Kind of need all their boots.
  • Take 40% off your ENTIRE purchase at Banana Republic today.
  • The perfect gloves for New York City in February?! Shhhh, big announcement coming to the blog soon!! EEKKK!!!
  • An almost identical version of the dress I'm wearing in today's post! Bonus, it comes in two colors!!
  • You can find a full shopping roundup + sales going on each day, over on the Holiday Gift Guides tab. You can find it at the top of my blog!! Sales are updated daily and feature the best deals of the day.

Links I'm Loving
  • Cathy from Poor Little It Girl just revamped her site and it's AWESOME!! She also did a fun post with one of my favorite brands, LOFT. The perfect outfit for the holidays!
  • Good and bad news for all you McDonald's lovers... say goodbye to the $1 menu!
  • I just got my first Trunk Club for Women box in the mail yesterday and can't wait to share my thoughts with y'all soon. In the meantime, signup for your first trunk today!
  • Photos from last week's Washingtonian On the Rocks event!! See some familiar faces??
  • How cool is this clothing ornament?! This would look so elegant on a dress for the holidays!
  • I may be on the apartment hunt soon, so naturally I'm more worried about what my new place is going to look like. I've started an inspo board on Pinterest. Anyone know of other places I can get decor inspiration?
Last week our earth was shook with the devastating attack in Paris. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. If you're looking to help, there are many ways to do so. This link has some great info on how you can make a difference and help those in need over in France.

In Case You Missed It

Holiday Gift Guide for HIM

Men's Gift Guide

We've taken care of the holiday hostess gifts and presents for her, but it's about time we talk about the gents in our life. Whether that's your wonderful father, loving boyfriend, pesky brother (sorry Z! just kidding) or best guy friend, there's always someone to get a gift for. So today I've got another roundup of items that will surely make HIS holiday season a little brighter!

There are items above for every price range, but if you're looking for something simple and inexpensive, I've included a few of those. Like the hilarious 'Use the Coasters' setCards Against Humanitypocket squares or a travel toiletry pouch.

If you're looking to splurge for the man in your life, I tend to focus on practical pieces they can use year round. Like a nice travel totegarment bagskincare set or Bean boots. Another item I'm loving this year is the Amazon Echo. For less than $180, your man can have his own personal concierge in his home at all times. Think of the Amazon Echo like a Siri, just with more answers and features.

If he's a tech man, the docking station will help keep his room clutter free, while also displaying his favorite watches and accessories!

One final gift item I want to touch on is the Stubble & Stache Beard Care set. I've featured S&S on the blog before, as they're a locally founded brand here in DC. I am a huge fan, not only because their products are versatile and I know several women who use their moisturizing lotion, but because they donate a portion of each sale to Veterans. Y'all know I love a company that gives back!

Let me know what you pick up for the man in your life in the comments below!! Happy shopping!

What to Wear for Thanksgiving

Can y'all believe that Thanksgiving is a little over two weeks away?! I mean time, can you please slow down?!?!

While I haven't even begun to drum up (pun intended) what I'll be contributing to Thanksgiving dinner, one thing I already have decided on is what I'll be wearing. The more casual, the better. The more flowy, the better. The darker the clothing, the better. Simply put, I want an outfit that I can be comfortable in, still look put together, and also hide any signs that I fully ate my weight in hash brown casserole (recipe coming to the blog soon!).

That's why I decided on this Merlot colored dress from LOFT. The exact dress is sold out online, BUT I've linked to an almost identical one in this post, as well as some similar options below. It's also possible that your local LOFT store may have it!

Holiday Gift Guide for HER

At first glance, today's post may seem like a Christmas wish list for myself, rather than a gift guide. Now I wouldn't oppose being surprised with any of these pieces, but they are in fact the perfect presents for any female in your life. Whether that's your mother or all you gents out there, your significant other. No matter who you're shopping for, I've got a great roundup at all price levels. Any of these items will surely make HER Christmas a little brighter.

Holiday Gift Guide for Her

H&M Hat (under $30) // Kendra Scott Bangle // Necklace // Rebecca Minkoff Clutch // Kate Spade Bangle // Kate Spade Wallet // H&M Ring // Glam Glow Face Mask // NARS Lipstick Gift Set // J.Crew Coat // Monogram Necklace // Oscar de la Renta Book (perfect for her coffee table) // Tory Burch Tote // Kendra Scott Tassel Necklace // Nordstrom Blanket Scarf // Puff Hat // H&M Fringe Gloves // Embellished Hat // Hunter Boots // Nordstrom Wedge Booties

Less Expensive Gifts

No matter who you're buying for, there's typically a budget you set for how much you want to spend on her. If you're looking for a simple gift for a good friend or family member, I usually look toward unique accessories like a great statement necklace, rings, beauty gift sets, or winter accessories like these fringe gloves or an embellished toboggan (hat).

Splurge A Little

If you're looking to spend a little more money, like for your girlfriend or mother, than your budget may go a little further. Some great pieces, that she'll get a lot of use out of, are items like a great coat, Tory Burch tote, Hunter boots or anything from Kate Spade.

When it comes to my go-to stores for gifts for her, I usually head to Nordstrom, Shopbop, J.Crew, Kate Spade or Bluemercury for beauty items.

If you're looking to purchase now and save BIG, here are some awesome sales going on right now:

Pamper Yourself at Hela Spa DC

Last weekend I had the pleasure of being apart of my first DC area blogger crawl. No, this wasn't your typical bar hopping extravaganza. Instead, we hopped from one Georgetown store to the next. It was a really fun afternoon and you can read more about the crawl, here.

One aspect of the crawl that I really enjoyed was that each blogger was paired with a particular stop on the tour. Myself and Tanvii of Tanvii.com were the two ambassadors for our second stop to Hela Spa.

When I heard "spa," my eyes opened a little bit wider. I can't remember the last time I pampered myself at a spa. Actually, I never have. I've had a facial or two when I was younger, but nothing since high school. The closest I have gotten to pampering myself in recent years is getting my hair done, so that's not saying much, ha!

So when we stopped in Hela Spa, I was instantly reminded it's about time I did a little something for myself.

We listened to several of the Hela Spa specialists talk about the various services offered at their spa. Everything from your simple facial, to medical treatments like Botox, to deep tissue massages, and more!

One thing that I thought separated Hela Spa from other businesses in the area is that Hela Spa caters to all skin types and tones. They offer various machines for each, and can tailor their services to whomever walks in the door. They also can customize all of their services. While they offer a pre-fix service menu, they can customize anything to your preference. Hela really takes things one step further when it comes to customer service.

I am already planning my next trip in for a cleansing facial and Vitamin B-12 energy shot. No, it's not a liquid shot, but an actual injection. Apparently the shot will help boost your energy levels for an entire month. So for those of you who are vitamin b-12 deficient, this is a great service for you. I will definitely report back my thoughts on both the facial and shot after my next visit!

Hela Spa is located in the Georgetown area of DC at 3209 M Street NW. You can call them at (202) 333-4445 to book your appointment today. Checkout their website for a full list of services.

**Thank you to Hela Spa for sponsoring this portion of our blogger crawl. Product was given as compensation for this post. Opinions are my own and photos are by Morgan from Guest of a Guest DC. Thank you for supporting the brands that help Primp & Proper grow!
