Over the Weekend, Virginia Gold Cup

Photos by Nicole

One of my favorite weekends in DC each year is by far Virginia Gold Cup. This was my third year going with a big group of friends. A day at the races is one of my favorite events of the year, and one I just can't seem to miss. It's a fun day of enjoying the gorgeous weather, hanging out with friends, sipping on mint juleps, watching a race or two, and of course, seeing the derby fashion.

The past two years I've worn a fairly large hat, but this year I decided to go for something a bit easier and less bulky. When I have worn a hat, it seems like I always get stuck carrying it around. So I opted for a lightweight fascinator that I could leave on all day. I found the perfect one from Dillards, and it's less than $20 too!!

Past years, it has been rather cool in the shade. So I decided this year to go for a dress that had sleeves. This ASOS beauty is very lightweight and SUPER comfortable!! It was the perfect dress for Gold Cup!!

Oh, you might have seen my Instagram on Friday, giving you a sneak peek at my Gold Cup outfit. It was a great example of how last minute outfit changes do occur. I originally had paired a colorful necklace with the dress, to pull in the color of the fascinator and coral pink of the clutch. However, after much deliberation in the mirror, I decided it was TOO much color. So I opted for a subtler necklace and bracelet. Turned out much better I think!! Has that ever happened to you? Seems like it happens to me on the reg!
